“In the family we learn to love, to forgive, to be generous and open, not closed and selfish. We learn to move beyond our needs, to encounter others and share our lives with them. That is why families are so important in God’s plan.” Pope Francis
The year before preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a time for parents and child to grow in an understanding of God’s plan in Salvation History, from creation, through the Old and New Testaments, to the life of the Church. The child is drawn to the divine Persons of the Holy Trinity, especially coming to know Jesus by listening to the Word of God, learning to pray with the Bible, learning other forms of prayer. By living and praying these lessons they are invited to come to encounter God more fully when they receive the sacraments.
You may begin this preparation with you child at about age 5 or 6 or when you believe he/she is ready and at least one year before immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) begins.
As a parent, you are welcome to use the curriculum used by the parish or to submit a request to use the curriculum of your choice (home school, Catholic School)
