Prayer is an application of one’s mind and heart to Divine things, not merely to acquire a knowledge of them but to make use of such knowledge as a means of union with God. This may be done by acts of blessing and adoration, petition, intercession, praise and thanksgiving (see the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2623 – 2643).

There are essentially three forms of Catholic prayer: vocal, mental and contemplative. Among them are: Liturgy of the Hours, the Rosary, Lectio Divina (or “Holy Reading”), the Apostle's Creed, the Confiteor (“Come Holy Spirit…”), the Our Father (the prayer that Jesus gave us), and the highest and most perfect prayer --the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
